How To Play Bocce League Rules Learn From The Pros

Simple Rules for an Even Simpler Game

The game of bocce is rather simple. Each bocce set consists of 4 balls of one color, 4 balls of a different color, and 1 pallino (marker). For this tournament each team will have four balls (two balls per person).

A match is started when one player tosses the pallino. The pallino is a marker and the point of the game is to get your bocce balls as close to the pallino as possible. The same player that throws the pallino will also throw the first bocce ball. The opposing team then throws one of their bocce balls. Whoever is furthest from the pallino will continue to throw until they are closer to the pallino or out of balls.

After all teams have thrown their balls, points are given to the team that is closest to the pallino. One point is given for each ball that is closer to the pallino than the opposing team's closest ball. Only one team can score during a match. In this picture the score would be two points for the team throwing red and zero points for the team throwing blue.

The team that won the last match will toss out the next pallino. Matches will continue until one team has reached an agreed upon number of points.

Bocce balls can knock other balls or the pallino. When the pallino is knocked and still in bounds, the pallino is still active and live (it has only moved). If the pallino is knocked out-of-bounds, then the game ends and points are given to the team that was closest before the pallino was knocked out-of-bounds.
